Beta Labs is producing more and more interesting applications for Symbian devices free of charge for every Nokia device owner. This time it's a simple but really useful RSS reader that demonstrates the brand new Qt Push Notification API in action compatible with S60v5 (excluding 5800) and Symbian^3 devices.

The application has already built-in a list of known news sources to subscribe and follow their feeds but you can also manually enter the url of your favorite websites that you want to follow. It is written in Qt but the power of this app is not hidden in the UI. It's the first app to use push notifications through a homescreen widget updating the news using the least amount of power.

The main features include:

  • Push notifications
  • Content directory
  • Homescreen widget
  • Supports Nokia Account
  • We don't know the reason but Nokia excluded support for the 5800. We also have to note that the homescreen widget is using alot of RAM resources (18-20MB of RAM) so it will be heavy for S60v5 devices. This is something expected along with any bugs as the software is in an early beta stage.

For more information as well as the link for downloading the app go to its official page at Nokia Beta Labs. And don't forget to submit your feedback in the Beta Labs discussion forum.
