It is obvious that the guys over at Nokia Beta Labs have been really busy and the Research and Development department of Nokia shows a lot of progress in intuitive applications with new releases one after another. This time it’s Nokia Big Screen, an application that is designed to display multimedia content from your Symbian ^ 3 device automatically to your Television.

After installing the application on your Symbian^3 device, the application opens automatically when connected via HDMI to a TV. The phone's screen becomes a remote control and a beautiful User Interface is shown on your TV screen, converting your phone into a great Media Center device.

Alternatively, the user can connect a Bluetooth device such as a keyboard, a mouse or even the infamous Nintendo’s Wii Controller, the Wiimote and remotely control the UI.

In short with Nokia Big Screen you can:

  • Show your photos and videos in high definition on your TV screen
  • Listen to music from your phone on your home audio system
  • View song lyrics in karaoke style and watch videos with subtitles
  • Play music on the background while you browse your photos
  • Enjoy a photo slideshow with music of your choice (change the direction with left/right arrow keys)
  • Screen saver activates after a minute's idle time to protect your TV
  • Use your phone as an entertainment hub you can take everywhere with you

The application is really interesting with the User Interface giving us some tips on the forthcoming evolution of Symbian’s User Interface in the expected future updates. It also demonstrates the abilities of Symbian^3 to work with multiple screens and show different content in each.
