The first long awaited Symbian^3 update is here and refuted the rumors of a possible skip of it in favor of a faster PR2.0 release. The changes of this update are hardly visible as we actually have a performance oriented update. There are also a few other good news that come with the current update.

The PR1.1 update is becoming available for N8,C7 and C6-01 and we expect E7 to be released soon now with this update on release. The most visible changes commited are the following:

  • Meeting requests can be accepted directly from email invitations and added to calendar
  • Maps integration in email, which means people can view the meeting location on the map when the address is mentioned in the location field in the invite.
  • QuickOffice is updated from 6.2.651 to 6.4.166. On the N8 the Quick Office 6.4 editor version is supplied built in the firmware and offers editing possibilities as well as zooming in and out in Word documents.

  • Adobe Reader LE is updated from 2.5.560 to 2.5.653
  • Social app updated
  • Ovi Store preloaded
  • Ovi Maps updated (new maps data)
  • Emoticons were added
  • Improved mail setup
  • Back/Forward buttons as well as cacjed pages in the browser
  • Increased loudness
  • New notification icon in the email widget
  • Improved stability, power management and overall performance
  • New Landscape Call Dialer
  • firmware

    The update is available through Nokia Software Updater in your PC or OTA (Over The Air) through a small 6.7mb in size download applied with the built in device updates application (Settings -> Phone -> Phone Management -> Device update -> Options -> Check for updates)

    Nokia also gives 3 free HD games preloaded on new Symbian^3 devices:

  • Need for Speed Shift or Asphalt 5 depending on the country
  • Real Golf
  • Galaxy on Fire
  • These games are also available to all N8 users for free through Ovi Suite and Ovi Store

    Only the standard, non-customised version of the update is available now for the C7 but we will shortly have the variants and operator versions released from next week for all Symbian^3 devices. For more info you can check the official Nokia blog
